    The Little White Company – A/W 13

Way back at the beginning of Autumn me and Boo went along to The Little White Company store on Marylebone High Street for an exclusive Blogger evening of shopping and biscuits for the little ones.

Boo loved playing with all the toys on offer and looking at all the ‘pretty, fluffy clothes’ – loving her passion for fashion!

I got chance to check out the new season clothing for little girls which Boo’s just able to fit into as it starts at 2. I found it really hard to pick out a few key pieces but in the end my overall favourite was this beautiful brown merino wool dress, it looks perfect on Boo – the perfect mix of classic and modern made with brilliant merino making it perfect for withstanding toddler wear. Boo even chose it for her latest nursery photos so watch this space for a snap of her in her new favourite dress!

The collection overall is just so girly without being sickly, yes Boo loves her skinnies and Converse but just like Mummy there’s times when only dresses and girly finishes will do: a bow is a dead cert for brightening up my day!

Boo also got the chance to decorate biscuits with the lovely ladies from Biscuiteers who came down to teach the children a thing or two about biscuits! I’m not going to lie I’m pretty jealous of their amazing talents and would give my bestest (yes I know it’s not a word!) jeans to be able to bake and decorate like they can! Boo had a great time and we can’t wait to check out the Biscuiteers Boutique for their amazing icing school.

While we were there I took the opportunity to stock up on their simple yet gorgeous vests with hearts and stripes, so delicately cut yet pure cotton to keep Boo lovely and snug.

The Little White Company never fail to deliver with their simple designs that are perfect for your little ones, and that little touch of Luxe that every little girl deserves.

World Prematurity Day 2013 – Give a Hug

A quick cuddle in Neonatal care!
Smiling and crying is no easy task!

Today is World Prematurity Day, but then you all know about Boo’s premature birth and my efforts for last years #WPD. So today isn’t about me reeling of statistics that will both bore you and make you cry, today is about giving a hug.

Bliss are on a mission to help make hugs a possibility for every baby. A premature baby may not get a hug with their parents for days even weeks. I was blessed to have a few precious minutes with Boo before she was taken away to NICU, it was then over 4 hours until I hugged her again and even then we couldn’t hold her for too long as she needed to be back in her incubator.

I’ve been adamant from the day we brought our tiny Boo home from hospital that she would be as normal as possible and that her being premature wouldn’t make any difference, but I was wrong and I think it’s only in the last few months that I’ve truly understood that it just can’t happen like that. Boo’s recent hospital stay shows us just how precious our world is.

Bliss have done some amazing work but really need help from every single one of us to make sure they can keep making hugs happen.

Life is precious, there’s nothing like having a premature baby to teach you that, so in true Mummy and Boo fashion here’s us having a rather festive hug today!

  • Pudsey’s Family Fun Day at St Pancras International

Pudsey’s Family Fun Day at St Pancras International

Last Saturday I was invited to the Pudsey’s Family Fun Day at St Pancras International in aid of BBC Children in Need; with Boo in hospital at the time it felt like a great event to support.

There was an action packed day on offer to families with activities including: Pudsey Bear’s picnic, treasure hunt, musical performance by Loveable rogues and Pudsey cookie decorating to name but a few!

    Me and Pudsey
Striking a pose with Pudsey as you do!

Being child free for the afternoon I decided to check out the oh so amazing Searcys St Pancras Grand – a champagne bar and brasserie that as soon as you step inside transports you back to sumptuous old school glamour, yet still has a children’s menu; this is my new favourite place in London and I’m setting myself the personal challenge to slowly but surely work my way through their champagne list!

    Searcys
    My new favourite place!

With afternoon tea and champagne taken care of I headed downstairs to see what the shopping was like.i don’t know about you but I remember St Pancras in the old days and like King’s Cross let’s just say it wasn’t pretty, never in a million years did I think St Pancras would be a destination in itself! After some extensive ‘research’ I can say with great confidence that the shopping is great, there is literally nowhere else that has a Fortnum and Mason store apart from Fortnum and Mason! As well as big brands that you’ll instantly recognise, St Panacras is great for discovering more independent boutiques and eateries that are great for those travelling but also not out-of-place in well known shopping centres.

The biggest treat for me on Saturday (apart from the champagne) was giving myself neck ache, the best of St Pancras is saved for when you look up – beautiful architecture with regular art installations it’s not to be missed; and with shopping and champagne one thing is for sure: you’re bound to be seeing me there a lot more.

  • When It Comes to Women’s Health, Mums Know Best

When It Comes to Women’s Health, Mums Know Best

No beauty or fashion posts from me today; today I’m talking about women’s health. Ok so it may not be every woman’s favourite topic of conversation but it’s pretty important, yet there still seems to be reluctance to talk about it, the big question is why? All things Gynae (yes there I said it) affect each and every single woman so why shy away from it?

For me I’m super lucky to have been brought up in such an open and honest family when it comes to women’s health, I remember asking my Mum what tampons were for at the age of 3 and rather than fobbing me off she managed to come up with a brilliant explanation that was perfect for my age (will definitely be using the same answer for Boo when the time comes), so I’ve always felt really comfortable discussing any women’s health questions or problems I may have with my Mum.

I was really shocked and a little saddened to learn that research carried out by Mumsnet on behalf of BMI Healthcare found that 71% of women would be more likely to talk to their partner about problems conceiving, while only 30% would speak to their own mother, and just 18% would talk to their sister.

Me and my sister like to ring each other up and serenade / shout obscenities at each other (aren’t we such a loving bunch!), so for me she’d be one of my first choices when it comes to discussing good old ‘down there’ issues.

    All The Ladies
    Auntie, Grandma, Mummy and Boo!

It seems I’m not the only one who thinks that like everything else in life Mums know best; Mr Andrew Baxter, Consultant Gynaecologist for BMI Thornbury Hospital, comments: “It’s great that women share any concerns with their partner…However, in these cases, mum may actually be more useful that your other half as other women are more likely to have been through the same thing and can offer advice, while some conditions also have a genetic link.”

Our Mums are part of us, they grew us so if anyone is best placed to try fill in the blanks it’d be them, plus apart from helping you learn about any genetic conditions that may need to be flagged with your GP, they can do what they do best, support you and reassure you that you’re not alone.

I am a member of the Mumsnet Bloggers Network Research Panel, a group of parent bloggers who have volunteered to review products, services, events and brands for Mumsnet. I have not paid for the product or to attend an event. I have editorial control and retain full editorial integrity

  • This Time It’s Pneumonia

    This Time It’s Pneumonia

Boo had pneumonia I thought we were done with hospitals (well in-patient status at least) but it seems I was wrong. Boo was admitted to hospital today and diagnosed with pneumonia – likely to be in both lungs.

As I write this I can’t believe we’re here; not that we’re somehow above this surprisingly common but extremely painful and nasty illness but that Boo seems to be somewhat lacking in both the luck and health department.

Anyone who’s had dealings with pneumonia will know that it’s a waiting game to see how long it takes the body to retain oxygen levels and recover. Yet again I’m the Mummy with no answers for her little girl.

I’m back doing what I know well, stalking ward corridors at night itching for fresh air and mastering the art of living out of a bag for both me and Boo – sending out an SOS for beauty/pampering supplies!

I know Boo is strong willed. She will come through this but why do we have to keep testing her strength.
