    FocusOn Natural Foods

Foods straight from Mother Nature are generally healthier than their human-madecounterparts. That’s why you should put your focus on fruit, vegetables, fish, meat, nuts, and seeds.

You may also want to select a natural oil to cook your mealsin (coconut oil is always a good option).

  • A Guide to Spending Good Amount of Quality Time with Your Kids

A Guide to Spending Good Amount of Quality Time with Your Kids

Photo by Daiga Ellaby on Unsplash

Giving birth to a child and grooming him or her up is not the actual responsibility of the parents. Though this idea was somehow correct in the yesteryears, but the meaning of parenthood or rather parenting has changed very much significantly these days.  The socio-economic conditions prevailing everywhere on this planet have brought more responsibilities to every father and mother. Today, the child requires a closer attention from the parents. Spending quality time with the kids is a foremost responsibility of the parents. Residing in the same home, eating together, and taking a bath in the same bathroom are not the perfect example of quality time. You must understand that quality time means spending time with the kids sharing each other’s ideas, concerns, emotions, and everything else.

Every parent must have an involvement in the proper growth of the kids. In the opinion of the child psychologists, this kind of an activity can develop a correct understanding between the kids and their parents and give them the liberty to share their feelings, ideas, emotions, and all other personal views. Following guidelines to spending good amount of quality time with your kids may help you to feel good in the end.

Sit together and discuss matters together

Inquisitive mind of the child wants to know a lot, and parents you have the responsibility to satisfy them. You must be very patient to sit together with the kids and reply to all of his or her queries.

Eat together in a stress free atmosphere

Make eating time a pleasure moment for the kids. You should sit and eat together. You need to take the initiative to manage everything properly so that the kids enjoy their food and above all, enjoy your company.

    Be a little creative

Be a child while you spend time with your kid. You should help him to fulfil his or her hobbies. Apart from encouraging him, you should help him to create innovative collection of various objects that may include stamps, coins etc. He would also certainly enjoy going for a wonderful Rage Face Collection.

    Play with your child

Learning and playing is accepted as a fruitful technique for your kids, because it helps to learn a lot. You should try to gather information and ideas from different sources to make them learn more and more. Obviously, this can be a great idea and that may help your kid in an amazing way.

Engage in household activities with your child

If you wish to make your child grow well, you must make him or her carry out some responsibilities in the household, especially when he or she has grown up a little. Without stressing him you should engage him in some household activities.

Taking the kids out for a walk or to a trip to a tourist destination can be a great idea too. Though a daily walk is possible everyday or on the weekends, you can plan outstation trips once or twice in a year. These can also help your kids realize how and what you have been doing for them. Such an understanding can be very valuable later on.

  • Making Bedtime A Dream with Moshi Twilight | AD

With newborns comes the obsession with sleep. How much are you getting, how much are they getting – when the magic of sleeping through the night happens. What no one tells you is that one of the best kept secrets for a happy family home is a good nights sleep for everyone. I’m a big fan of setting myself up for a solid 6 hours (minimum) of rest with my must haves of lavender pillow spray, relaxing music and a camomile tea. But what about mindfulness for children at bedtime?

I’ve spent years creating a positive bedtime experience for Boo and am always interested in discovering new approaches as she continues to grow and develop throughout childhood. Moshi Twilight agree with me and we’ve been testing out their sleep stories app for the past few weeks.

Even though Boo is nearly seven, bedtime is still a big deal in our house and the Moshi Twilight Sleep Stories App helps make every bedtime positive. It’s based on the idea of mindfulness and that a good bedtime makes for a great nights sleep.

The app offers stories set in the enchanting world of Moshi that help children to fall asleep all the while filled with soothing melodies and soundscapes. The Moshi Twilight Sleep Stories App is designed to enhance your child’s bedtime and is in no way a replacement for a bedtime story and cuddles. After I’ve kissed Boo goodnight I set the app for a sleep cycle and it plays soothing melodies while setting a story in dreamland for Boo. There’s absolutely no screen time as it plays with the screen locked, and is left up on the shelf. Boo absolutely loves the soothing music and tones – there are new stories and sounds added each week, and you can see her face visibly relax as she slowly drifts off to sleep (hands up who still sneaks, a peak of their children as they drift off – it’s like cat nip for mothers)

The new guide relaxation is also great for travel – perfect for family holidays and those inevitable bedtimes on a plane. The guided relaxation takes restless passengers on a mellow Moshi journey – adventure and travel are where we’re happiest but it’s so important to keep elements of routine when travelling with children; the app is perfect for that.

There is a free version of the app as well as multiple subscription options and is designed in such a way that as parents you remain in control.

The Moshi Twilight Sleep Stories app is available to download for both Apple and Android devices and is now available on the Amazon Alexa.

Premier League Primary Stars… One Year On | AD

Football and poetry go together like… up until learning about the amazing work of Premier League Primary Stars I would have said chalk and cheese but now I know just how well they go together and how important each one can be to the other. I was invited along to the Premier League Primary Stars One Year On evening that celebrated the outstanding success of the first yer of the iniative. The brief was simple if not every so slightly colossal: to provide 10,000 schools with a host of inspirational materials that use the appeal of the Premier League and professional football clubs to inspire learning. They absolutely smashed their target by engaging with 15,442 schools (out of 20,000 nationwide)

    Everton FC Away morning

I’ve previously written about Boo’s passion for football so it’s great to see an initiative that doesn’t focus on just one avenue of interests but instead seeks to be inclusive to everyone.

    Boo loves Football

“Be ambitious, be inspiring, be committed and be fair” is a great starting point for children to be fulfilled and happy whilst being part of a wider community; these are in fact the words behind the Premier League Primary Stars project that is committed to inspiring primary school children to learn, be active and develop important life skills:

Be Ambitious – Work hard and never give top on your goals.
Be inspiring – Set a great example to others.
Be committed – Work well with others and as a team.
Be fair – Treat people equally and work with others.

We learnt about Gethyn, just one of the many inspiring stories to come from the first year of Premier League Primary Stars…

The Premier League Primary Stars held a poetry competition and were blown away by the staggering amount of entries and to such an amazingly high standard.
Frank Lampard and Lauren Childs sifting through poetry entries
A collection of poems has been published in the Try Try Again Poems by The Premier League Writing Stars – it’s an inspiring collection of poetry by children (with a sprinkling of adults, who aren’t a patch on the kids!)

    Boo loves football

Football is so much more than a game, it’s a gateway to so much more and thanks to Premier League Primary Stars with their resources for schools and families children are always first.

  • Getting Fussed About Fibre With Arla | AD

Getting Fussed About Fibre With Arla | AD

Fibre: it’s not the sexiest of F words but Arla are on a mission to not only get us talking about fibre but be fussed about how much we’re getting in our daily diet.

Public Health England recommends that adults in the UK consume 30g of dietary fibre per day, however the British Nutrition Foundation has found that most adults only consume 18g. That’s a daily deficit of over a third.

Arla invited me to an immersive lunch last week to launch their brand new yogurt range, Arla Fibre.

As you see, the food was absolutely amazing. Adding to the taste it was revealed that my menu like a few others dotted around the table was in fact much higher in fibre than the rest. It was achieved by subtle swaps to help maximise intake of fibre which is vital for a healthy digestive system.

So not only did my three course meal taste as delicious as it looked, it ticked the box for fibre.

Fibre is one of those things that you just imagine to not taste nice – so I didn’t expect to like the new Arla Fibre strawberry yogurt as much as I did. I was surprised at just how creamy it was with no additional taste – it’s one of those easy swaps you could make during your weekly shop that will help you and your family

Fortified with a natural form of fibre, Arla Fibre is available in four flavours – strawberry, blueberry, pineapple & passionfruit and raspberry providing 4.7g per serving.

Arla are on a mission to get people fussed about fibre and want to make it easy and flavoursome (say bye bye to bland and boring) to get your daily dose of 30g.

Disclosure: I was invited by Arla and received a fee for my time.
