We Made a Mattress With Mumsnet and Dreams | AD

Being a mother has given me my greatest love but it also caused a period of heartbreak: my love affair with sleep it would seem was over with the arrival of Boo nearly seven years ago. Determined to fight for my second greatest love I’ve learnt how to rekindle with sleep and how our relationship has been redefined.

It’s all about quality over quantity – motherhood has put an end to mammoth lie-ins and long stretches of uninterrupted sleep but that doesn’t mean I take sleep any less seriously. In fact as I get a lot less than I did pre Boo I’m positively obsessed with how to get the best out of a night’s sleep. Mumsnet and Dream asked me to work with them to develop a mattress range and I’ve never said yes so quickly – it was as if this collaboration was made for me.

    #MumsDreamSleep

Back in January I along with a group of other bloggers headed to the Dreams factory just outside of Birmingham for a tour and to understand the mattress manufacturing process; I was surprised to see just how hands on the whole production line is and how many of the staff have been with the company from the very beginning. After learning about all the different components and thought processes that go into designing a mattress Dreams asked us to create our own. As bona-fide sleep deprived parents we truly know what it takes to get a great (as we can) nights sleep. Differing preferences were immediately apparent so we set to work creating two different mattresses that would cater for all tastes and budgets. I like my mattress as firm as a rock so I worked on the Kindred mattress with the aim of making an end product that was a luxurious as night in a hotel yet was practical enough to withstand family life aka bed invaders!

At the end of the day we had two finished products… the Dreams Mumsnet Kindred and the Dreams Mumsnet Spirit.

As part of the MumsDreamSleep campaign we filmed a very special edition of ‘Never Have I Ever’ – it was hilarious to film, it’s amazing what we’ll do to try and get a few more moments of precious sleep!

Fast forward a couple of months and it was time to take delivery of the mattresses we’d designed. I have nothing but praise for the both the booking and delivery team at Dreams – they kept me updated on any changes and it came right when they said it would. The process was simple and with the added benefit of recycling the old mattress.

The mattress is everything I thought it would be and more. It’s super firm and the grey edging adds to the luxe feel. The Mumsnet detailing on the handles is fun.

    #MumsDreamSleep

I was super touched to see they’d personalised mine with my name!

    #MumsDreamSleep

The mattress was delivered to my Mum’s – as I travel so much for work Boo has a second bedroom there and I’m often either climbing in or out at all hours during the night to catch a flight or sneak in a snuggle with Boo after I’ve been away. I need a bed that has me asleep in no time. The Dreams Mumsnet Kindred mattress did not disappoint; it would appear me and the other bloggers involved have a knack when it comes to designing the perfect nights sleep. With features including:

    • Natural cotton and wool layers for breathability and moisture control
    • Natural alpaca and bamboo layers with antibacterial properties
    • 3000 individual pocket spring to provide superior support
    • Anti-allergy

A month on what are my thoughts? Of course I’m going to give it ten out of ten, it’s got my name on it, literally! Joking aside the Kindred mattress is a fantastic investment. I’ve previously named sleep as one of my happiness non-negotiables’ and whilst this mattress can’t increase the amount of hours you get, it can make every precious hour count – it’s a big hug for you and your back when you climb in.

    #MumsDreamSleep

Boo thought it was very important to point out one final detail… having second bedrooms at Grandma’s is the best because she let’s you jump on the bed and she’s delighted to confirm that the Dreams Mumsnet Kindred Mattress is perfect for a spot of early morning bouncing.

    #MumsDreamSleep

Surely the perfect seal of approval from the reason why this mama is happily tired.

    #MumsDreamSleep

Both mattress are now available at Dreams in store and online.

The Mumsnet Kindred and Spirit Mattresses are designed by parents for parents – I’m immensely proud to be part of the collaboration between Mumsnet and Dreams… and me!

Disclosure: I’ve been working with Mumsnet and Dreams on this collaboration – a fee has been received for my time.

  • Keeping Routines Fun With PlayBrush | AD

I’m one of those rare breed of people who absolutely loves going to the dentist (I find it so relaxing I almost always fall asleep in the chair!) – I’m also proud of the fact that I don’t have a single filling. So it’s no surprise that Boo has inherited my love for teeth and all that goes with keeping them healthy. We’ve got our oral hygiene routine down to a tee but I’m always looking for ways to keep routines fun. After trying Playbrush for the past week I’m confident we’ve found a fun addition to Boo’s toothbrushing routine that ticks all the boxes for me as a mum.

    Playbrush Toothbrush

Playbrush is a smart attachment for any manual toothbrush that connects to a tablet or mobile to via an app that offers games which have been designed to make brushing more fun and to motivate children to brush their teeth for the right amount of time and all around their mouth. It’s suitable for children aged 3-12 years and works great for families looking to establish a great routine but also for children like Boo who are already nailing the toothbrushing game but deserve just all the fun they can get.

From a practical point of view the Playbrush app download and pairing process took a matter of minutes with simple to follow instructions. Once I’d set Boo up on the app and showed her the available games she took to it really well and I even spotted her sneaking back ten minutes later for another brush!

    Playbrush Toothbrush

The Playbrush app comes loaded with two free games which are brilliant – check out our favourites below – subscriptions can be bought giving you access to even more brushing adventures and allow parents to monitor their child’s brushing progress in the parent app.

Playbrush - The Smart Gaming Toothbrush Playbrush Toothbrush

With both time spent and attention given to all areas of the mouth being measured and encouraged through the fun of games Playbrush transforms such a subconsciously mundane part of our twice daily routine as a family to a 2 minute period both in the morning and evening that Boo looks forward to and actively seeks out. Leaderboards and stats trackers built into the app – it’s not long before the competitive side of Boo comes out and she’s determined to continually improve her high score…

    Playbrush Toothbrush

Playbrush comes in four colours and a new smart sonic version of Playbrush is now available to pre order ahead of it’s release later this summer. Prices for both models start at £19.99

Playbrush is available online – I’m really happy to be able to share a unique discount code giving you 20% off Playbrush – simply enter BOO at the checkout.

  • Can a Break Up with Kids Ever Be Amicable

Photo by Natalya Zaritskaya on Unsplash

When you are in a relationship, many things cancause the two of you to grow closer together or further apart. Many people may have two or more relationships before they find the person they want to commit to long-term, but that is no guarantee that things won’t go wrong. However, if children are involved, this process can be made more complex and harder to resolve easily. How can you have an amicable break-up when children are involved?

    Understand Your Children’s Needs

Both of you are going to be upset and perhaps even angry at each other, and while this is understandable, it is important that you try to put these feelings aside for your children. They will be as upset as you at the notion of their parents breaking up, so they will need to know that everything will be ok eventually. Of course, you cannot shield them from everything, and they need to understand why this is happening, but by taking their feelings into account, you can learn to be more amicable about the separation.

    Agreeing Shared Rights

One of the biggest issues with having children is dealing with the shared custody. As long as the children are not in danger, this issue should be dealt with as painlessly as possible. It can be easy to use your children to hurt your partner or to add leverage to your side of the separation, but this will only upset your children and could cause them long-term pain. Even if you need to consult with solicitors in Chichester about custody, you need to work out a sensible and fair agreement.

    Let Your Kids be Kids

Sometimes a break-up can lead to one or both parents putting more pressure on their kids to take on more responsibility. It could be that they use older children more for babysitting duties, orperhaps they rely on them for moral or emotional support. While being a single parent can be difficult at first, it is important that you still allow your children to be themselves and experience life as a child. It is important to let them go out and play with friends or to play with their toys in the garden. You want their life to carry on as normally as possible after a separation.

    Consult on Your Children’s Lives

Whether you are together or not, you still have jointresponsibility for your children. If you both want to be a part of your children’s lives, then you should both discuss important eventsor problems together. These decisions can be fundamental in your child’s life, so you both need to try and be adult about it and put other differences aside if you can.

Not all relationships can be separated amicably; theremight be good reasons for one parent not to wantthe other to be involved. However, if you are both willing to share your parental duties, then this will be a big help to your children.

  • How To Improve Your Youngster’s Lifestyle

Are you the kind of parent that would do anything for your child? Are you constantlyon the lookout for opportunities to improveyour youngster’s existence? Are you prepared to go the extra mile no matter what? If your answer to these questions is yes, your little one is extremely lucky. They have been blessedwith a parent who trulyhas their priorities in order. However, there is always more to be done. If you are eager to push forward with your plans to help, love, and support your child, you will need to take on board the following three suggestions. Hopefully, they will inspire you even further to improve your youngster’s lifestyle.

    Consider moving house

The first suggestion is to consider moving house. If your little one is going to enjoy the best life possible, it is essential that they are spending their time in a suitable home environment. Thisshould be a space that gives them plenty of space to play, learn, and relax. It should also be a space that has the potential to grow alongside your family, instead of holding you and your loved ones back. If this is not the case, now might be the time to try a new location. Don’t worry, thislifestyle change is easier than you’d think. All you need to do is place your trust in Bird & Co, and they will do all of the hard work for you.

    Evaluate their education

The next suggestion is to evaluate your child’s education. Rather than putting them straight into your local school, it is importantthat you weigh up the different options. Do your research, speak to other parents, and organisetours of other institutions. Thisis the only way you can know for sure that your child wouldn’t be best servedsomewhere else. In addition to this, you should think about hiring your childa tutor. Although this will involve an extra expense, it could be a brilliant way for you to support your youngster’s education and to save them from falling behind.

    Value their social life

Along with valuing your child’s education, you should hold their social life atequal importance. Failing to do this could be detrimental to your youngster’s progression. In order tomove forward in their lives, they need to understand how to interact with their peers. They also need to spend time away from the family home, as this will allow your little one to access their own identity. If you are determined to do your bit, you will need to invest a lot of time into arranging your child’s social calendar. You should speak to your little one about joining a sports club, encourage them to invite their friends round to your property, and make an effort to connect with your fellow parents. It might also be a niceidea to reach out to the other families in your neighbourhood, as this is an excellent way for you to find friends that live at a convenient distance from your child.

  • St Tropez One Minute Pre Shower Gradual Tan | AD

St Tropez One Minute Pre Shower Gradual Tan | AD

A golden tan is more than just a reminder of travels – for me it’s when I look and feel my best; whilst I travel lots, short of emigrating to a desert (I’m working on it) I can’t achieve golden skin all year round without the help of a bottle. However there’s just one problem: I detest fake tan, it’s smell, it’s dicey stakes when it comes to how much of tan fail you’ll wake up with not forgetting the tell tell stench of either biscuit or roast chicken oh and of course the naked tan dance (come on admit it, you’ve done it too!) But what if I told you there was a new grown up tan on the block – one that gave you all the wins that come with a tan without any of the fuss, and the best part… it takes one minute, yes one minute! The St Tropez One Minute Pre Shower Gradual Tan is a brand new offering from the St Tropez brand and I’ll admit I thought it was an April fools the the brief landed in my inbox. How could tanning be so quick and simple?

St Tropez One Minute Pre Shower Gradual Tan Mousse

I could try and write loads about how to apply the St Tropez One Minute Pre Shower Gradual Tan but then I would be over-complicating it; it’s simple – apply to dry skin, wait one minute, shower and then dry as normal. The tan takes between 6-8 hours to develop and dependent on the depth of tan you want to achieve it can be left on for up to five minutes.

St Tropez set me a three day challenge to see how I got on with the new St Tropez One Minute Pre Shower Gradual Tan…
    Day 1
I approached day one of application with slight trepidation; surely it couldn’t be as easy and as quick as the bottle claimed but it really was. I was surprised to see that the mousse was bright white and thick in consistency yet after my first use I found it easy as a guide colour and the thickness feels nourishing on my skin. I started from the bottom and worked my way up as my legs are always harder to tan so could benefit from a longer development time. As soon as I’d finished applying the mousse I turned the shower on and by the time it had warmed up the minute was up and it was time to jump in and rinse.
    Day 2
As soon as I woke up on day two I looked in the mirror convinced I would see some kind of streaking but despite me searching and searching I couldn’t see any; I was also relieved to see that I didn’t appear to have just returned from a two week holiday on the sun! The St Tropez One Minute Gradual Tan is for a subtle glow and as such it was a minimal change but one that is perfect for helping you to achieve a buildable and believable tan.
    Day 3
Ok so day three was a bit of disaster (or so I thought) I’d had a typically hectic day and it was way past midnight when I finally finished work and went to jump in the shower – so I committed a traditional tanning cardinal sin and tanned by the bathroom vanity light, surely this wasn’t going to end well. Woke up six hours later and I literally couldn’t believe that I didn’t resemble an Oompa Loompa!
    Check out my vlog…
    Here’s my before…
St Tropez One Minute Pre Shower Gradual Tan Mousse
After three days of application I had a light golden glow that was reminiscent of an afternoon catching the sun…
St Tropez One Minute Pre Shower Gradual Tan Mousse
I said at the beginning how the St Tropez One Minute Pre Shower Gradual Tan is the grown up tan and it really is. I’m a millennial and a mum and this product not only works for me but was designed for busy people like me who want a tan to fit in with their life and not the other way around.
