Every year my Facebook timeline is a flurry of people making new years resolution; some predictable (weight loss, stop smoking) and some rather ludicrous (I read last year that a friend wanted to climb Mount Everest – needless to say they’ve yet to conquer the summit!)

I don’t normally make a resolution, however this year I decided to break this tradition and come up with meaningful yet fun resolutions so here they are….

Firstly and may I say very sensibly I am going to make the conscious effort of drinking more water. It’s really rather simple as well as drinking more throughout the day I will make sure that I drink one glass of water every morning and night to try and keep my body hydrated and a tad more healthy!

And now for the wacky resolution: On the 31st December 2013 I want to be able to do the splits. May sound simple to many of you but for those who know me, you’ll understand just how much of mad idea this is! Madness aside I am committed to my resolution although I’ve got no previous experience of the splits and as such don’t have a clue as to where to start, but hey ho I’ve got over 350 days to figure it out!

2013 is set to be a year of challenges, changes, excitement and lots of fun for Mummy and Boo and now we know it will also feature more water and the splits!

Once you have children Christmas isn’t the same anymore – no longer do you spend ages creating the perfect gift list for your loved ones to select what to get you; instead I’ve found myself spending hours trawling the internet looking for the perfect mini kitchen for a certain Miss Boo!

Mummy duties well and truly aside I love Christmas because it means that
SS13 is just around the corner. Avenue 32 is the online luxury shopping neighborhood featuring high-end emerging designers and although only just turning 1 this week has become a one stop shop for the fashion conscious looking for the next big look!

I’m not the type of girl to chuck my clothes out at the beginning of a new season just to have all ‘new’. Instead I prefer to add a fey key pieces and invest in statement accessories.

Avenue 32 have literally hundreds of gorgeous accessories and they’re even clever enough to know that we ladies like to see our would be picks both on an off the model so they have a nifty little button at the top of the galleries that switches from still to model view; fashion and gadgetry together a match made in heaven!

For me a scarf is quite possibly easiest accessory addition to practically any wardrobe and these by Lara Bohinc are pricey but worth it – see it as an alternative family investment!

Avenue 32: expensive, yes but most definitely worth it and as they say you can’t put a price on happiness and that includes fashion.

With Christmas around the corner, last minute present buying is something we’d all like to avoid however the day-to-day busyness of family life means that all too often the only time I have left in the day for shopping is after Boo and the Stinkies are in bed by which time the high street is well and truly closed.

What with appearing on national television, twice and even having her own hashtag for her baptism there’s no denying that Boo’s life has all the trappings of a celebrity.

However receiving gifts from British designers it’s not something the Mummy and Boo household are used to, so when Katherine Caldwell – a British artist, illustrator and designer sent Boo a baptism gift we were excited to see what it was!

We’re used to a lot of little parcels landing on our doormat with Mummy and Boo goodies but were stunned by just how beautiful the packaging was for Boo’s present – each package from Katherine Caldwell is gift wrapped by hand to give that extra special touch.

Beneath the delicate layers of crisp tissue paper we found the most beautiful sleep suit with a screen print of a sleeping Baby Goat part of the Butterflies and Dragonflies collection. The illustration is designed and printed by Katherine Caldwell and if I’m honest the picture really doesn’t do it any justice; so much detail gives the goat a life like quality so much so that Boo clapped her hands together and kissed ‘GiGi’ as she playfully named him!

Inside each box is the story behind the design so that night’s bedtime read was an easy choice!

The sleep suit is made from the softest of cotton and is organic; in fact everything from the packaging to the ink used for the print is organic which really helps to remind us that gorgeous clothing choices can be both fashionable and ethical!

Boo loved GiGi the sleeping goat and even had to be coaxed out of it and into her baptism gown on her big day!

We have an action man for a Daddy here at Mummy and Boo HQ, what with playing toy soldiers and running a ridiculous amount of miles every week, he has his fair share of sport injuries plus just good old-fashioned wear and tear.

With a busy life, it’s not the injury that matters but how quickly you are recover that counts. With this in mind, we jumped at the chance to review Deep Heat Heat Rub.

I thought the best way to test out the rub was to do so ‘in the field’ so the last weekend that the He was away with the army I packed him a tube of heat rub in his wash bag with strict instructions to use it as part of his warm up and cool down routine.

Deep Heat Heat Rub has four active ingredients
– methyl salicylate
– eucalyptus oil
– turpentine oil
– menthol

together these produce an aspirin like effect with the rub being absorbed through the skin to help reduce pain and inflammation.

2 days later he returned with half a tube gone and a list of what had and hadn’t worked for him.

When used before exercise as an injury preventative he found that the sweat accelerated the deep heat action and became slightly itchy. He found it most effective after exercise when rubbed into the calves and other similar large muscle areas. He also found it really helped to soothe the aches and pains of backache after a long hard day of playing toy soldiers.

So what’s the verdict? An all round good product – an essential in the wash bag of every action man toy soldier dad!
