  • Mummy and Boo are on the move

Mummy and Boo are on the move

After months of looking and a million yes, no and maybe piles not to mention the lists, relists and short lists we finally found our Brady bunch bunker.

What seemed like an eternity of house viewings, bubble wrap and constant stubbing of toes on packed boxes we upped sticks and moved ourselves in April. At the time I was dead set against us not having removal men and looking back I still am; it was a nightmare but we got through it learning that next time I’ll get the professionals in and even get them to pack too!

I moved into our old house when I was six months pregnant and He was away on tour; it was our perfect little townhouse castle, which we couldn’t wait to welcome Boo into. With the sudden addition of the Stinkies in September it quickly went from being a dream home to the house from hell. Let me tell you – open plan living does not work well with pubescent boys especially if you want to keep your sanity and to go longer than a day without developing a migraine.

The biggest issue was that Boo had been albeit lovingly evicted from her nursery to make room for bunk beds, dirty socks and that unmistakable pong of stale Lynx.

Six weeks into our new residence and we’re starting to feel settled – and despite getting through a good thirty litres of paint there’s still the living room, kitchen and our bedroom to go; I fear poor He shall cower when he sees the overalls come out in the future.

The best room is Boo’s, simply because she has one. Sometimes we go up there in the afternoon for no reason but to sit and look at all her pretties; including the five foot life like Giraffe who goes by the name of Gerty – a nursery must!

The biggest downside to the move was being without internet for three whole weeks – how is a Mummy to survive without the virtual key to the big wide world, no online food shop – so apologies if you saw me in the supermarket and I ignored you, I blame it on the two brimming trollies I was trying to navigate towards to the checkouts.

We all know moving house is stressful at the best of times, so throw into the mix a Boo, three Stinkies and a disorganised He and you’re heading for gin o’clock!

  • Operation Yummy Mummy: The Lincoln 10k

Despite numerous calls from loved ones and all those with an ounce of common sense not to do the 10K on Sunday; I donned my Lycra and headed to the start line for the 16th Annual Lincoln 10K Road Race.

Behind the smile I was panicking. I’d hardly done any training in the last two weeks due to having a beastly cold and here I was lined up with over five thousand people about to embark on over 6 miles of running.

My game plan was simple. Finish it and survive. I crossed the start line in haze of denial, as the crowd were carrying me along at a pace that was a tad bit adventurous. Boo and my Mama were there whooping and cheering me on my way which really did help, after all I needed all the encouragement to get me through the race!

Less than 90 minutes later ( I’m not in too much of a hurry to check the actual time!) I crossed the finish line elated and exhausted. I did it and not a moment too soon!

Whilst I am no Paula Radcliffe I definitely have fallen back in love with running. The middle 5K were enjoyable which is really what it’s all about. Yes not only do I want my pre Boo body back but I want to change my shape so #operationyummymummy is by no means over and I’m sure there’s plenty more pain to come for the eventual gain!

Who knows I may even go for a run in the morning.

  • Mothers Day: 34 Weeks under Mummy Rule

Mothers Day: 34 Weeks under Mummy Rule

All week it’s been impossible to escape the constant reminders that Mothers Day is upon us. Ever since I was a young child I have always thought of Mothering Sunday as really special and an opportunity to show my Mummy just how much I love and appreciate her.

Tomorrow is my first Mothers Day as the Mummy as well as devoted child (I was pleased to hear from Mama Dearest that two cards had dropped on her mat this morning!) I’ll be honest I had romantic ideas of Boo handing me a homemade card and having breakfast in bed – supervised by He of course!

The reality is somewhat different. He is away with the TA for the weekend so I will be waking up as normal and seeing to Boo whilst also attempting to keep the Stinkies from killing each other (boring weekends are lethal when it comes to teenage boys!)

I know in the grand scheme of things it’s just another day but if I’m honest I did have my sights set on a memorable day, I don’t mind the following years I just wanted the first to be special.

I suppose this is what happens when you’re the organiser aka Mummy of the family. I coordinated all the cards – five in total; all taking into account different tastes! And perhaps this will encourage me to delegate within the household more and even take the odd break from micromanaging.

Mothers Day aside tomorrow will be special for Mummy and Boo. Boo will be 34 weeks, so she’s been as

long out of my tummy as she was in. A weird date to mark but one that I promised to remember when she was born early.

    Happy Mothers Day Mummy!

  • Operation Yummy Mummy: The Motivation of a Bed Ridden Amoeba

Right so I’m just over half way through my ludicrously short training schedule for the Lincoln 10K and as the voice of truth in my head predicted I’ve not been for enough runs. Despite having all the best intentions and even enjoying myself once out on a run, when it comes to the crunch at 5am it seems I have the motivation of a bed ridden amoeba. By 7am I am racked with guilt for not making it out of bed and spend the rest of the day psyching myself for a run when He comes home from work.

The biggest obstacle to #operationyummymummy is having a certain individual (mention no names – Boo!) playing conjoined twins with me all day. It’s times like these that serve as a reminder of just how important a family support network can be. With both our families in London Skype can only go so far in taking the strain.
It’s not all bad news. As I said once I get into my stride I’m really enjoying my runs. 40 minutes of uninterrupted me time.

8 days until race day and I’m starting to gulp, a lot. There’s no denying that I’m going to be in agony and there will be tears but even with this in my mind I’m still looking forward to dragging my sorry self over the finish line!

    No pain no gain!
