Confessions of a part time baking fraudster

It’s national baking week this week and in our house we all love a bit of cake. It’s an easy lunch box filler and a fresh cake always bring the family together along with a pot of tea.

Ok so I sound like the Martha Stewart of the north with images of me whipping up a batch of cakes before the sun has risen. This is NOT the case. Yes I can bake, I’d go as far to say that I find it relaxing when I’m left alone to create a slice a culinary cuteness.

Sometimes though I want the wow factor without the trial and error / hard work part, and this is where Betty Crocker’s cake mix and ready to spread icing come to the rescue.

Betty Crocker to the rescue!

We all know how they work: cake mix, egg, oil and water, a big bowl and an eager Stinky to mix it all up and voilà! A quick stint in the oven and the smell wafting through your house would make even Nigella drool.

Once cooled the cake can be iced in a matter of seconds and the finish is the same every time.

A slice of heaven

Is it cheating? Yes. Is it baking? That’s a grey area but yummy most definitely; a real crowd pleaser.

Betty Crocker’s cake mix and ready to spread icing is the baking equivalent of liposuction; cheating but the result is still damn fabulous.

mmm

Glad I’m not the only one who gets a helping hand from good old Betty every now and then!

I am quite an accomplished baker and it is part of my job, but even I use this from time to time! It gives such an amazing result, and the Betty Crocker fudge icing is a huge time saver and makes this a lovely slice of chocolate heaven!

I’m absolutely rubbish at icing so for me this is as close to real icing our house will probably ever get! Good to know that the professionals use it from time to time! 🙂
