Club Aspire Lounge at Gatwick North Terminal | Review

Airports are my ‘thing’, I could happily spend hours in them. There’s something about so many people from so many different places coming together and heading off in the same manner that I find fascinating. The big downside of airports is the noise.

I’ve long been a fan of airport lounges as a travelling hack: they are an oasis of calm in an often hectic terminal. Club Aspire Lounge invited me to try out their newly refurbished lounge at Gatwick North Terminal on our recent holiday.

I was flying to Crete for a week with Boo and my Mum; after check-in and security, we headed to Club Aspire which is located with the other available-to-all lounges (turn left after security and World Duty Free and follow the signs).

We received a warm welcome at reception and were soon sat enjoying a drink and deciding what to eat. The lounge is like many others offering a light buffet with both hot and cold dishes and a bar stocked with complimentary beer, wine and a small selection of spirits. Sparkling wine and Champagne is available to buy. They don’t have the biggest selection of drinks to other lounges however it is more than ample.

Boo and my Mum decided to choose from the cold buffet with meats, cheeses, bread and salad. I opted to try one of the two hot dishes available. It was a vegetable curry and was seriously good – so much so that I filled up with a second plate meaning I wasn’t hungry for our four-hour flight to Crete.

Here’s Boo enjoying a slice of cake as an afternoon treat which you’ll be pleased to know is available in abundance in the lounge…

Club Aspire Lounge at London Gatwick North Terminal Review

When looking to book an airport lounge I would recommend checking to see if you have lounge access included with your bank account or credit card. If not there are plenty of offers available online; a quick Google and you’ll find loads and hopefully one matching your departure airport and terminal.

The Club Aspire Lounge isn’t a first-class experience but it doesn’t claim to be – what it offers is comfortable convenience, which it does really well. When asked about lounges people often ask about value for money in terms of drinks/food available and whilst this is a factor when choosing a lounge especially when travelling with children, I think it’s really important that we step away from viewing lounges as a cost v how much you consume in a set period of time and look at the real value of what is often overlooked… calm. When I book into a lounge I look less at the food and drink available and more at what their maximum capacity is; what you’re paying for is the ability to escape the hustle and bustle of the main terminal and start your trip calm and collected.

The Club Aspire Lounge at Gatwick North Terminal ticks all of the above and more – a great mid-range lounge offering for both business and leisure and a good choice for families.

Club Aspire Gatwick North Lounge prices start at £20.99 per adult and £15.99 per child.

  • You Family Will Love This Holiday Idea

Are your family itching to get on holiday. Well…are you itching to get on holiday? If you’ve had a stressful year where you feel like you haven’t done much, your life has been a bit overwhelming, and your body is just crying out for a break, then it might be time to think about what your family holiday is going to be. There’s still time to book something last minute, and as long as you have the money set aside, all you need to do is get planning. The planning process is what we’re here to talk about. Because we know how stressful it is trying to plan a holiday abroad, so we’ve got the solution for you. Take a camping trip rather than a holiday that requires you to get on a plane, and we promise you you won’t regret it. If you need a little persuading, here’s why we think you’ll love this family holiday idea.

    It Feels More Relaxed

Think of everything that you might find stressful about going on a family holiday, and wipe it out of your mind. Because a camping trip really isn’t stressful at all. There’s no rush to get through an airport, there’s no stress of keeping the kids entertained on the flight, there’s no long transfer at the other side. It’s all stress free. Well, the only thing that you might find slightly stressful is setting up the tent, but as long as you coordinate as a family, it should be up in no time. Due to knowing you’re in your own country, the whole holiday does feel more relaxed. You don’t have to stress to find directions, you’ve got your own car to go exploring in, and you can go to any part of the country! It also feels like more of a family bond is built. It might be hard to get used to at first, being in a tent altogether. But, in the long run, you feel more of a family!

    It’s So Easy To Sort

All you need to do is get the equipment, pack your car, and find a location. You don’t even have to stick to just one location, you could go wherever the wind takes you! So, first of all, check out this link for more info on the camping equipment you might need. It’s all relatively cheap considering you’ll get many uses out of it. Then, do some Googling, and find the best locations for camping in your country. There will be so many of them around! Then, figure out what activities you would like to do when you’re there, and pick a date that you want to go!

There’s So Much Adventure To Be Had

Just because you’re not going abroad, it doesn’t mean there’s no adventure to be had. In fact, we believe that with a camping holiday, there’s way more adventure to be had. If you go in peak season, and you head to an official campsite that’s managed, you’ll find plenty of activities. If you head to one that’s slightly off the beaten track, you’ll definitely find loads of things to do such as kayaking, biking trails etc.

  • A Day Trip To Guernsey with Condor Ferries

A Day Trip To Guernsey with Condor Ferries

If there’s any downside to travelling as a family is that sometimes I overlook what’s available on our doorstep. I’ll hold my hands up to not being the biggest fan of staycations and I tend to keep days out to within the M25 as a die hard city girl. As part of their #TravelWithCondor campaign Condor Ferries challenged us to think outside the box when it comes to days out and invited us to head to Guernsey for a spontaneous day trip.

A Day Trip To Guernsey with Condor Ferries

So with an early start to our Sunday, we drove down to Poole port ready to board the Condor Liberation – the check in and boarding process was quick and simple and before we knew it we were on board and taking our seats in Ocean Plus at the front of the ship. Say hello to recliner seats, vista views and the ever handy power sockets. Guernsey is less than 3 hours from Poole and is the perfect destination for those seeking a little more from a day trip without venturing as far as the continent. We arrived at the Channel Island, docking at the capital, Saint Peter Port, in time for lunch we headed off to explore the area by foot – the great thing about being a foot passenger is that we were off the boat in moments and making the most of our day trip.

A Day Trip To Guernsey with Condor Ferries

After a delicious lunch at The Catch – which on top of great fresh local seafood has one of the best views of the harbour we went off to look at all the boats and have a general stroll. It’s amazing how the Channel Islands are a special mix of British culture and sentiments of holiday; perfect for a vacation mode top up.

Top tip: if you get the chance to sample Guernsey ice-cream… do it! The Channel Islands are famed for the dairy and I am going to make the bold statement that I had the best rum and raisin ice cream EVER there.

A Day Trip To Guernsey with Condor Ferries

We boarded the Condor Liberation late afternoon and the views where beautiful as we sailed out of port.

A Day Trip To Guernsey with Condor Ferries

On the return sailing back to Poole I took advantage of the genuinely great duty-free, with lots of special offers available on top of the tax free savings. All the facilities onboard are on one deck meaning that we got through dinner and shopping super quick leaving us time for a cheeky nap – call me an old lady but I always sleep so well at sea!

There is no way to see everything Guernsey has to offer in a day, but day tripping with Condor Ferries is affordable and means that now we have the perfect reason to head back, so we can continue our adventures.

So next time someone asks you ‘What did you get up to at the weekend?’ Instead of saying the usual of shopping/heading up to town, don’t settle for the same old next weekend, head to Guernsey…

Disclosure: This is a collaboration with Condor Ferries, a fee was received for my time.

  • Discover Tunisia | Off The Beaten Track in Tabarka

Discover Tunisia | Off The Beaten Track in Tabarka

Our first full day in Tunisia was spent exploring the wonders of Dougga and as the day drew to a close it was time to head to our base for the next couple of nights. Tabarka is situated in the north west corner of Tunisia and is the border town to Algeria. We checked in to the Itropika Beach Hotel – I think it’s important to say from the start this is hotel is a perfect relic of faded grandeur of a yester-year tourism era. Whilst dated the room was clean and more than made up for it with the beautiful sea view. When travelling I find myself waking up before dawn so I can watch sunrise – whilst I have no desire to be awake at this time at home, there’s something so calming and grounding from seeing first hand the day begin.

    Discover Tunisia

    Discover Tunisia

But that’s not why people visit Tabarka, it’s a rich source of archaeological merit and is the perfect starting point to explore the Atlas mountains (more on my time exploring the Atlas mountains in the next instalment of my discovery of Tunisia). Famed for its coral fishing and annual jazz festival it’s a destination in Tunisia that is fruitful as it is surprising .

    Discover Tunisia

The fort of Tabarka is beautifully preserved and we were privileged to go inside, which always the case for the public.

The hard work that is the climb up is instantly rewarded by archaeological artefacts that tell a story of a fort that dates back to 1540 when it was built by Italian Genoese Family with the purpose of housing a garrison. Originally just under 1km from the mainland of Tunisia (it was joined to the mainland during or just after World War II) its has played many roles throughout its rich history with one of it’s most notable when Nationalist leader Habib Bourguiba, who would later go on to become president of post-independence Tunisia, was exiled here by the French colonial authorities in 1952. You’ll find monuments and dedications to Bourguiba throughout the town as a figure of national treasure.

I found the town to be open and welcoming, with the discovery of the beautiful Café Andalous on Avenue Hedi Chaker – its eclectic collection of bric a brac is second only to the amazing authentic tea they serve. We sat with the locals and caught up on an international women’s football game – good old football being the universal ice breaker!

    Discover Tunisia

Tabarka may not be an obvious choice or a destination that could entertain you for a week’s stay but if you head in search of ‘more’ of what Tunisia can offer you, then it’s a perfect jewel in the Tunisian coast.

  • Making Bedtime A Dream with Moshi Twilight | AD

With newborns comes the obsession with sleep. How much are you getting, how much are they getting – when the magic of sleeping through the night happens. What no one tells you is that one of the best kept secrets for a happy family home is a good nights sleep for everyone. I’m a big fan of setting myself up for a solid 6 hours (minimum) of rest with my must haves of lavender pillow spray, relaxing music and a camomile tea. But what about mindfulness for children at bedtime?

I’ve spent years creating a positive bedtime experience for Boo and am always interested in discovering new approaches as she continues to grow and develop throughout childhood. Moshi Twilight agree with me and we’ve been testing out their sleep stories app for the past few weeks.

Even though Boo is nearly seven, bedtime is still a big deal in our house and the Moshi Twilight Sleep Stories App helps make every bedtime positive. It’s based on the idea of mindfulness and that a good bedtime makes for a great nights sleep.

The app offers stories set in the enchanting world of Moshi that help children to fall asleep all the while filled with soothing melodies and soundscapes. The Moshi Twilight Sleep Stories App is designed to enhance your child’s bedtime and is in no way a replacement for a bedtime story and cuddles. After I’ve kissed Boo goodnight I set the app for a sleep cycle and it plays soothing melodies while setting a story in dreamland for Boo. There’s absolutely no screen time as it plays with the screen locked, and is left up on the shelf. Boo absolutely loves the soothing music and tones – there are new stories and sounds added each week, and you can see her face visibly relax as she slowly drifts off to sleep (hands up who still sneaks, a peak of their children as they drift off – it’s like cat nip for mothers)

The new guide relaxation is also great for travel – perfect for family holidays and those inevitable bedtimes on a plane. The guided relaxation takes restless passengers on a mellow Moshi journey – adventure and travel are where we’re happiest but it’s so important to keep elements of routine when travelling with children; the app is perfect for that.

There is a free version of the app as well as multiple subscription options and is designed in such a way that as parents you remain in control.

The Moshi Twilight Sleep Stories app is available to download for both Apple and Android devices and is now available on the Amazon Alexa.

Disclosure: A fee has been received for my time.
