Because They’re Still Babies…

It’s been one of those days, Boo’s been home sick from school for the second day – a non descript virus that seem to be endlessly doing the rounds. In between the “Mummy my head hurts, Mummy my ear hurts, Mummy my tummy hurts” and the requests to tickle her back I learnt something today: No matter how ‘big girl’ Boo may appear, she’s still a baby… and that’s ok.

It’s easy to get caught up in Boo’s busy schedule of swimming, ballet, horse riding not to mention a little thing called school – and I am aware at how fortunate she is to be able to do so much and have so many opportunities. We expect so much from them so young and sometimes we forget just how much energy it takes to be ‘child’ all the time. Today we took a few step backs from being a big girl, we snoozed in bed, we frequented a drive-thu and we snuggled. Yes it would have been nice to have gone more than five minutes without whinging but I’m pretty certain that today’s regression was just as effective as any calpol… Pressing pause feels good whether you’re four or forty-four.

I may have gone a little crazy today from playing nurse/maid but then I’m reminded she won’t be little forever there’ll come a time when she doesn’t need/want me to tickle her back so I’ll take all the Boo demands while I can.

Oh it’s such a horrible bug, sounds like the one my daughter’s just had. She was off then back to school then sent home again! I hope Boo is feeling better soon. I had to go out today as I’d been in the house for eight days and I was starting to go a bit loopy 🙂

Hope she’s better soon. My son has had a very bad cold this week. He’s been at school, but we’ve had to take our foot off the gas and bin the after school stuff.

Aww I’m totally in favour of relaxing and taking my foot off the gas! At the moment we are doing no out of school activities at all for the first time in forever (I have four kids so there has been years of the things) – but now it’s bliss. Get in from school and…. nothing. The kids love it. And so do I, especially in these cold months. Hope the day of relaxing for you both worked wonders xx

We all need days where we just do nothing and relax – we have them regularly because I think that my two do so much that they sometimes need a day of nothing at all. They’re my favourite days x x

Everyone needs a duvet day when they begin to feel under the weather, it is amazing how lazing about not doing very much can ultimately make you feel so much better.

You are right, it’s so easy to forget that however “grown up” they might seem, they are still babies. My 8 year old can be really testing at times and seems so grown up, and then I will go upstairs and he will have left his teddy on his bed and dressed him in his pyjamas or something! 😀

I hope she’s feeling better. I hate seeing my children ill, but do secretly love all the extra cuddles I get. I agree that we may sometimes forget how young our children actually are and pressing pause on life and taking things easy is so important now and again.
